The Gospel According To ME

Introduction – How Postmodernism is "Redefining Christianity"?

PREFACE

There is a secular religion that has permeated our society over the past several decades. It did not come about in a vacuum but, in a sense, socially evolved as a result of a need in those who were (and are) running from the biblical concept of God. This “religion” is called Postmodernism.

People have tried to get along without God over the centuries in their quest to be autonomous. There is a nature within man to want to exalt himself. There is also a quest in those who seek such autonomy to be freed from the concept of accountability to a Creator. This “quest” has led men to trust in themselves and exalt human authority as the supreme authority in the world. Thus Theism, the belief in the God of the Bible, was replaced by many with what is called Naturalism. Those who believe this doctrine lived lives with the understanding that the material is all that exists and that there is neither God nor the supernatural. The problem, however, is that this led people to a sense of emptiness (Nihilism) which led to despair. Eastern Mysticism came along and it gave people the sense of spirituality without any accountability to a personal God. This later evolved into the New Age movement, however, this movement was somewhat too “strange” for many.

The New Age movement then embraced Postmodernism.  The common thread in these trends is that the god of these philosophies or worldviews is SELF. The concept of truth is what each person (self) believes it to be. Thus what is true for ME is true and what is true for you is true even if we contradict one another. This view has been seeping into the Church of Jesus Christ over the past few decades. There is more and more interest and focus upon the individual person than on the true focus of Christianity who is Jesus Christ. This book is about exposing the subtle infiltration of the Church by this “Gospel, According to ME”.

INTRODUCTION

As one looks at the Christian Church of the early 21st Century, one sees a vast difference with the church of 100 years ago in the form of worship and liturgical procedures. There is, however, a much more fundamental change that has occurred in the church and this change is a subtle one. As one speaks with Christian people in this present day, it becomes evident that the majority of Christians do not have a clue about the problem. One of the most shocking things one will find also is that many pastors are clueless about the issue at hand. It is my hope that this work will help many to consider the problem at hand.

Orthodox Christianity is a unique body of faith and also a profound worldview. It is clear as one studies the foundations of the Christian faith that it is a faith based on unchanging truths. Contrary to popular opinion, Christianity is defined by a set of propositional truths that never change. Although there are those who are redefining Christianity, the Christianity of Jesus Christ and His Apostles is the same as it was 2000 years ago. Christian faith must be based in doctrine and not in subjective feeling and herein lies the conflict between the "faith of our fathers" and the "faith" of today that has been influenced by postmodernism. So many in the modern Christian Church do not know even the fundamental doctrines that define Christianity. Churches are filled with worshippers who claim to be people of faith, but fail to understand the distinctions that separate true Christianity from a faith that, in some cases, sounds more like Star Wars than Christianity.

May the Lord help us to see the subtlety of Satan, who is the father of lies, in the redefinition of Christianity through the influence of Postmodernism.
